On our way to Kybale we stayed one night in Fort Portal. It is a small town which does not have much to offer. But it is a good place to stay if you are heading to the Rwenzori mountains, Kybale, Semliki NP or the Semliki game reserve. In the garden of our inn we saw some nice birds like sunbirds and weavers.

Around Fort Portal they grow a lot of tea. The tea is stored in these "barns" until it is transported to the factory.

Via Fort Portal zijn we naar Kybale National Park gegaan. Fort Portal is een stadje wat niet veel te bieden heeft, maar is wel de uitvalsbasis voor het imposante Rwenzori gebergte, Kybale, Semliki NP en het Semliki wildreservaat. In de tuin van ons hotelletje zaten wel wat leuke vogels: o.a sunbirds en wevertjes.

In de streek rond Fort Portal wordt veel thee verbouwd. Onder deze afdakjes wordt de thee opgeslagen in afwachting van het transport naar de fabriek.

We hoped to see the chimpanzees in Kybale. We saw them, but they were so high in the trees that we only could watch them with binoculars. We made some pictures of the red colobus monkeys and baboons, but it's a pity that we only have a few bad photographs of the chimps. Yes we know, it's not a zoo .....

In Kybale national park hoopten we de chimpansees te ontmoeten. We hebben ze gezien, maar jammer genoeg zaten ze zo hoog in de bomen dat ze alleen met de verrekijker goed te observeren waren. We hebben wel foto's kunnen maken van de rode franjeapen en de bavianen, maar van de chimps hebben we slechts een enkele onduidelijke kiek. Tja, het is geen dierentuin .....
