Parc national des volcans (Rwanda)

The village of Kisoro is situated close to the Virunga volcanoes, at a distance of 15 kilometre from the Rwanda border. We spend a night in the Travellers Rest, the lodge where Diane Fossey stayed several times. From Kisoro you can track the gorillas in two places: the Mgahinga national park in Uganda and the National Parc des Volcans in Rwanda. The last one seems to be the best option to see the gorillas, but it is more expensive caused by the visa costs.(US 60 for Rwanda and US 30 for the return to Uganda)

Op 15 kilometer afstand van de grens met Rwanda ligt, vlakbij de Virunga vulkanen, het dorp Kisoro. Hier vind je het Travellers Rest, een lodge waar Diane Fossey diverse malen heeft verbleven. Vanuit Kisoro kun je de gorilla's op twee plaatsen proberen te bezoeken: het Mgahinga national park in Uganda en het National Parc des Volcans in Rwanda. De laatste biedt de beste mogelijkheden om de gorilla's te zien, maar houdt rekening met de extra visakosten (US 60 voor Rwanda en weer US 30 voor Uganda)

We already had a permit for visiting the gorillas in Bwindi. However, we decided to go to the gorillas in Rwanda too. A lucky choice, because the forest in Rwanda is less dense than in Uganda. We had clear sight on the gorillas and the terrific guides did everything for us to enjoy these enormous creatures as much as possible.

Een gelukkige keuze, want achteraf bleek dat het regenwoud daar minder dicht was dan in Uganda. We hadden dan ook een heel goed zicht op de gorilla's en ook de gidsen deden hun uiterste best om ons zoveel mogelijk te laten genieten van deze imposante dieren.

The gorillas acted if we were not there and kept on laying down or sitting and gave us the opportunity to make a lot of beautiful pictures.

De gorilla's negeerden ons volkomen en bleven bij voorkeur rustig liggen of zitten en gaven ons zodoende volop de mogelijkheid mooie plaatjes te schieten.

You could make beautiful close ups, while this gentleman was sitting without moving.

Je kon zelfs op je gemak mooie close ups maken terwijl deze heer peinzend voor zich uit zat te kijken.

It is always nice to have the youngsters on a picture. But it is more difficult to make a picture because they move a lot.

De jonkies doen  het altijd goed op de foto. Ze zijn echter veel beweeglijker en een kiekje maken kost dan ook meer moeite en geduld.

The silverbacks are really special. More than 200 kilograms of muscles and an angry look make that you respect them.

De zilverruggen zijn een verhaal apart. Ruim 200 kilo spieren en een boze blik zorgen ervoor dat je wel ontzag voor ze hebt.

This photo was made a few seconds before this guy scared us by passing us at a distance of less than two foot.

Deze foto werd gemaakt enkele seconden voor deze heer ons de stuipen op het lijf joeg door met veel bravoure op een halve meter afstand voor ons langs te lopen.

Filming these animals was less stressful.
