Lake Mburo

By car Lake Mburo national park is about four hours from Kampala. This park is the home of zebras, several species of antelopes, hippos, buffalos, warthogs and many (water-)birds. It is one of the few places where you can have a nature walk, accompanied by a guide, and a perfect place for game drives and boat launches.

There is some basic accommodation (banda's) and there is also a campground. On the shore of the lake there is a cantina, where meals and cold drinks are served.

Lake Mburo national park is met de auto vier uur verwijderd van Kampala. In het park vind je veel zebra's, diverse impalasoorten, nijlpaarden, buffels, wrattenzwijnen en heel veel verschillende (water-) vogels. Het is een van de weinige parken waar je, onder begeleiding van een gids, ook te voet de natuur kunt verkennen. In dit national park kun je gamedrives en boottochtjes maken.

De accommodatie (banda's) is erg basic en er is  ook een campingplaats. Aan de oever van het meer ligt een kantine waar koude dranken en eten wordt geserveerd.

The crowned crane is the national bird of Uganda.

Topis are an antelope-specie we only saw in  Lake Mburo National Park.

De topi is een van de antilopensoorten die we alleen in Lake Mburo National Park tegen kwamen.

During a morning walk we met a herd of impalas We stayed on a distance of 150 meters, but when they noticed us they still went away.

It was very funny to see this beetle transport "his"  piece of dung. Doing this, he is always running backwards, but at a very high speed!

Tijdens de ochtendwandeling stuitten we op een kudde impala's. We bleven op 150 meter afstand, maar toen ze ons in de gaten kregen maakten ze toch dat ze weg kwamen.

Heel leuk om te zien hoe de mestkever "zijn" keutel transporteert. Hij loopt hierbij altijd achteruit, maar doet dit wel met een verbluffend hoge snelheid.

The fish eagle is a bird that is common all over Uganda.

De visarend is een vogel die je door heel Uganda langs het water tegenkomt.

Only in Lake Mburo N.P. we have seen the Burchell zebra.

De Burchell zebra zijn we alleen in Lake Mburo tegengekomen.

In Uganda there are a lot of buffalos. They are one of "the big five". Specially the males that are banned from the herd can be very aggressive.

In Uganda kom je veel buffels tegen. Zij zijn lid van de club "the big five", en vooral de verstoten mannetjes willen nogal eens agressief overkomen.

Lake Mburo has a lot of hippos. The waterfront of the cantina is owned by "Old Jennifer", the house hippo. At the end of the day she comes out of the water for diner.

Lake Mburo telt veel nijlpaarden. Het water voor de kantine is het domein van "Old Jennifer", het huisnijlpaard, dat daar tegen de avond vaak aan wal komt om het gras te maaien.

The cantina is a good place for a sundowner.

Heel mooi zijn de zonsondergangen, te bezichtigen vanuit de kantine.
